Myth of the Sisterhood

LONDON — Earlier this year, Sheryl Sandberg asked members of a mainly female audience at Harvard to stand up if they thought one day they could be chief executive of a company — or even president of the United States. Many stayed seated. For the chief operating officer of Facebook and the fledgling elite she was addressing, one barrier on the road to equality may well be what Ms. Sandberg calls the leadership ambition gap — the lack of women self-confident enough to “lean in” like men.
